They are too pricy for what they are.

The situations to wear it are few
and not feel autistic, fewer.

It is a genuine recommendation not to. If you like the concept, get a quality kilt and a nice belt-system for day hikes. Purpose-built parts are sometimes better than the multi-purpose whole.

I've worn a kilt myself and it does make you feel free. But those tactical kilts carry over what I think is the main issue with cargo shorts or cargo anything; putting anything in those cargo pockets sucks. They swing around and bang on your thigh and are generally pretty annoying. Load-bearing is best done on the hips or the chest/back.

So that's a great suggestion, get a real kilt with a real pattern and then get a good load-bearing belt to wear over it. Sure you'll look weird but everyone looks weird in the woods.

For going /out/ I also highly recommend the traditional knee-socks. You can spray them with permethrin and hopefully keep the ticks off. And get a dirk, dirks are a good knife to have anyway.

You can skip the sporran though, fuck sporrans.

I want to get a wool tunic to wear hiking in winter but the only ones that look decent are made for men. I'm female, so this poses a problem when it comes to fitting on the shoulders.

I have a utility belt that sits on the narrowest part of my waist, hence the need for a longer tunic style. There just aren't many options.

Women don't get well made functional clothes. They get expensive tissue paper.

Anyway OP I think a kilt is a great idea. Wool baselayer leggings with leg wraps (for protecting the fine knit from snags) is what I'd do if I were you in winter. In fact that's what I'd do with my tunic. I like the aesthetic, it's functional and comfortable, and I'm not even a larp fag. I just know good things when I see them.

I'm pairing a cowboy hat with mine and you should do the same. Medieval cowboy is a new trend

On the contrary, more wealth you had the more cloth you could just leave hanging around your body. Before the industrial revolution the price of the material itself was much, much bigger concern than the price of the workforce.

I seriously thought about wearing a kilt for kayaking down river. Last time i went the water was so high there were no good banks to stop at except for one the whole 9 miles. By the end I had to piss so bad but couldn't adjust enough to pull my dick out to piss in a bottle. I almost just pissed myself but thankfully the end was in sight. idk about the the tac part, but i love my kilt of really hot days. the granite where i live leaves me making steep steps and climbing rocks and such, and nothing gives u better leg movement than a kilt.

pros:

Cons:

>they can snag when stomping through brush
>pockets i find on kilts are not well made, many cant hold a real load, let alone even fit real items, much like ur pic, they have flat pockets that have no room and are sewn on at the top making is possible to rip off if snagged
