>>2226873Your bugout bag should be suited to your contingency which means you need to sit down and figure out what you need, prepare to escape to a safer place, if you wander aimlessly you'll probably die. Just make a plan, and figure out what things you need to make it work out. Bring lighters. You should get a water filter, reliable filters are usually over $150, could go cheaper but they will be less reliable, the whole point of the filter is your survival so if you cheap out and die it's your own fault. Bring a pot for the water. Garbage bags are good to have, don't bring too many, you should use heavy duty bags, they can be used for waterproofing, or as a poncho, or as a sleeping bag, you can fill a bag with dry debris, and then place an empty bag inside the full one, you can get in, won't be super warm but it's better than nothing. Have climate appropriate clothing, have gloves, have toilet paper, a toothbrush and toothpaste if you're going to be out for a while, it hardly weighs anything and doesn't take up space but could save you from dying a dumb way. Duct tape is good to have, rope is good to have, bug spray is good to have if that is going to be an issue. Medical supplies is extremely useful but you don't want to be bogged down so figure out what you realistically need. Bring a couple liters of water and if you're going to be on the move for more than a day bring at least five pounds of food, grains are usually recommended.
