best ways to make people find you more easily?
i was thinking sattelite phone in a waterproof bag
flare gun with illumination flares
maybe even some stuff you could toss on the ground as you go to make any search dogs sniff you out faster, although i bet it would also attract undesirable animals

get a fucking PLB of some kind, it's hands down the most useful thing you can carry to get rescued if you're in trouble way off somewhere
costs a couple hundred bucks, but it makes the job of the SAR guys so much easier and lets you call for help as soon as you get fucked up instead of having to wait however long it takes for someone to notice you missing and start a search

there's a reason people drop off itineraries with friends or the local police station.
give them as much detailed information as you can, complete with maps and where you expect to be on what days.
arrange with them what time you expect to be back and what date/time to raise the alarm should you not reappear.

We do this in Australia with driving in the outback, cuz there are a lot of roads that maybe see only 1 vehicle of traffic a month.
Things like reporting in via CB radio when you set up camp every night and reporting to local police stations with your itinerary are fairly common practices to "not die".
