Do you REALLY need to cook while out?
I feel like in almost all circumstances eating cold food is fine, cooking it is larp.

No but I need hot water. I need it to make coffee. I can also towel wash with it. Wait there is more, I can use hot water and make it into soup or eggs or whatever just with some free dried powder. You don't really NEED to cook, ever. Even when you're at home. That is, if you only eat pre-cooked foods or processed foods. Sounds pretty miserable though. Cooking while /out/ is enjoyable. Why wouldn't you?

This kind of ties into this discussion. I did some cold camping last year just because I wanted to embrace the suck a bit. First time I did it outside the army. It is the most boring fucking shit in the world. You're not collecting wood for a fire. You're not setting up a food station or busting out cooking utensils. You're not fishing or hunting. You're just walking around aimlessly during the day and laying bundled up at night. I don't think people understand the amount of time food prep takes up while camping.

It comes down to this mentality though. Camping is just larping. Camping is pretending you're either homeless or """"surviving"""". You can """survive""" /out/ on very very little. The reason you cook food or set up a home pit or collect firewood and stack it nicely is for FUN.
