I'll be going on a 4 or 5 day hike, no civilization and lot of walking
What's your favorite food to take on trips like these? I'm thinking of grabbing two of pic related but that's only 3000 calories, I need to fill in the remaining 7000

Water is not an issue, there's a river that I will use. Will filter it out with a t-shirt and use water purification tablets. Just need some food ideas that don't need cooking or heating and will give me the energy I need.

I got some of the Australian MREs, they're better than I expected. There's a good amount of food in them, I managed to spread it out over two days. Try one of you can get your hands on it.

I got them from a local camping store, there's different types online although the packs I got from the store had a lot in them and haven't been able to find the same type online.

Anything light, compact and/or calorie dense. My favorites are cured meats and cheese. Oatmeal and dried fruit is a good breakfast. A bullion cube and some veggies can be soup. There's a myriad of stuff you can bring.

We used to field strip our MREs, which usually meant throwing away any redundant packaging like the beverage pouch and tossing unwanted food into rat fuck boxes for anybody that did want it. It also involves tossing stuff like the accessory packet with coffee, tobasco, gum and matches since we usually carried lighters.

So you're just taking out the food you don't want, why not say that in the first place? The tea/coffee pack and matches are things lots of people would take camping, it's hardly trash if it's stuff people will use.

The sweetened condensed milk is the only thing that does that, if you're hiking or being active and drinking enough water then it shouldn't be a problem. The rest of the food in the packs I've tried so far haven't caused any shitty problems for me.

Ratpacks are alright. You can buy a lot of shit off the shelf though and just make the main meals yourself, it's probably cheaper than getting a ration.

I tried it out of curiosity and wasn't expecting it to be any good, it was much nicer then I thought it would be. The only thing in it I didn't like was the mince so I had it with the mashed potato and added the salt/pepper and sauce to it. Creating your own pack using things from the supermarket would probably be cheaper if you wanted to do it on a budget.

I don't really have an option. My bag is already full as it is, there's zero chance I could fit a butane burner in it. I also can't start a campfire because I'm going into the chernobyl exclusion zone so I can't risk being spotted with a campfire that's seen from miles.

Bread, butter, cheese, nuts, porridge, dried fruit, noodles and those just add water cheespasta whatever things. Stuff like tuna or beef jerky. Fresh cucumber or paprika is great for motivation when you slice it thinly on top of bread. Fresh food in general, but that adds a lot of weight so choose carefully. 100% worth it to have something fresh in there and a cucumber for example will hold nicely for a week.
Other than that I usually take one of those freeze dried meals per day.
Coffee and tea.
