Does /out/ go magnet fishing? I live in Ontario near the Niagara river (muh war of 1812) and have plenty of things from that time that I've pulled out. Will post pictures tomorrow if this thread doesn't 404.

I've never tried this, but I imagine you could start with a smaller magnet, that you are sure you can pull off of things. Or don't magnet fish near roadside cliffs.

OP here, this is where I got my magnets until I invested in a neodymium one off the internet. To those of you that are worried about cars and such, pull on a angle, magnets get most of their strength from being pulled on straight up. Will post pictures when I get back from classes.

OP, where on the Niagara river? anywhere near queenston heights? I'd bet that would be a decent area to try.

Never heard of this before.
Now I'm thinking of tying a magnet to the side of my kayak and seeing if i pick anything up.
I was going to put my metal detector inside and go looking for the anchor my friend lost when he flipped and didnt have it tied down. maybe I'll do both now

lol. i used dynamite for fishing in Siberia. we took those small sticks put them on fire and dropped them down. few minutes later we collected the fish and went home to dry, smoke and grill it for hours.

i have a friend who does it as a money bringing hobby. he uses middle size electric magnet and a generator to fish in Rhine.. be warned as soon you found something historical you have to report it. everything else is our own fun and money.

I saw this thread last night... today i went and bought the 250lb magnet from harbor freight and went out for 20 minutes or so, at a newer but heavily used fishing area.

I found the remains of a subwoofer (so now i have 2 magnets) about a pound of hooks, and a dozen or so lures/tackle
