i found that you will get an information overload if you look at a broad North America coverage when it comes to botany / plant/ fungus identification.
so i looked into your state / provincial universities programs recommended readings ( if they have them) I was able to find some very regional specific and much more useful books.

I'd recommend a sun hoody. It's light fabric like a sportshirt, but with long sleeves and a hood. Used a Black Diamond Alpenglow over the summer and didnt use a drop of sunscreen

Yes you have to pay a fee. They buy maps from your county/area that show where all the Crown land is, as well as private property and such.
If you don't want to pay for the app, you can go to your local town/county building and pay them for the same thing.
First find out what county you want to be camping in.

I'm a uni student and I've heard that gardening is good for mental health so i've decided to make a small vegetable patch somewhere on my campus (without the knowledge of the administration). Or if there is an agriculture department they might have have some spare plots. Or just start with a windowsill herb garden.

You ar not going to get much out of a shady forest, with no previous gardening experience, and no support from the landowner.

They work but are noisy and do not cushion you like a pad, but know that they only act as a radiant barrier if you have it on the ground and lie on it the cold will pass through since conduction is greater then radiant heat reflection, not really a good sub for a mat, if you can make a pine bow and fern cushion under your tent then having the space blanket in the tub of your tent will keep you toasty, hope that helps

Moving from Appalachia to Colorado next year for a job. What are some good reads to do beforehand to show respect to the locals as I will obviously be an outsider with a southern accent. How should I train for walking?
I want to walk to the city which is about 10 hours, any problems I should know about that?
Has anyone here done this?
I find when I go on 4-5 hour walks my back gets sore with a backpack on
