>>2234743.22s are amazing, and if your laws permit, you should get one. Survival/hunting/LARP aside, it's one of the best ways to get into shooting for a beginner.
>cheap ammo>ammo can be found everywhere ammo or sporting goods can be found>no recoil worth noting>can be suppressed and make no sound at all other than the firing pin and the impact of the bullet>bullet traps can be bought in pretty much any sporting goods store, improvised, or you can staple your targets to a solid tree. So there you have a gun you can shoot in your back yard all day without spending very much money at all, and the marksmanship fundamentals you learn from it carry over to shooting with bigger bore guns.
If you stick a scope on it (and do get a scope, the obsession with iron sights on every gun is ridiculous), you're set for hunting animals up to roe deer size - reliably anyway! I'm certain someone's got a story of someone who killed an elephant or a grizzly with a .22, but that can hardly be recommended.
A bolt action .22 rifle is also so incredibly simple to make that aside from complaints about the fit, finish and overall quality of the gun, it really doesn't matter who you buy it from - it's still going to shoot straightish and go bang when you press the trigger.
