the catch is that the forest preserve surrounds the campus of the Argonne National Laboratory, a laboratory responsible for many newsworthy scientific discoveries and without doubt many secret government projects. Many of them are probably relatively boring like a type of explosive for a particular warhead, but one can only wonder the kind of shit we're not told about.
Because of this, i like to go there because in addition to the sinister atmosphere the place has (much more so than other areas), I like to imagine there are crypdids and ghosts roaming the place like in the stories i sometimes see here.
One day I was getting ready to embark on a several mile walk after parking my car, and I was zipping up my jacket an old man with a dog walked by and told me to be cautious that day. I asked why, and he said it was because of a recent disappearance of a United Airlines Executive who's car was found in a waterfall glen parking lot nearby. They were apparently searching the trails for days because of his car but nobody could find him.
I thought it would be cool to keep an eye out for his body in case I found it, but some later news came out that he probably ran away to go live with his girlfriend in California. I stopped giving a shit, and didn't look around much anymore.
I started typing this story without the expectation that I would be able to report any meaningful conclusion. But having just checked, it turns out they literally found his body YESTERDAY. Interesting stuff.
