Mostly because I lack straps for attaching my sleeping bag to the underside as intended, and my Czech surplus bedroll is very bulky and takes up a lot of space inside the pack. >>2238938I believe the outside pockets are the same size, the only difference is the size of the main pocket and the additional M16 magazine pouches. Anyone interested in accessories for their ALICE packs should note that cargo shelves (which can help support heavy things in the pack or be used on their own for transporting things like water jugs, fuel cans, etc.), waterproof liners for the main pouch and the three smaller pouches, and waterproof/camo backpack covers are available and not terribly expensive.
