>>2267172I guess it would really depend on the location and how bulky your gear is. Fairly easy to do where I live with the gear I already have (mostly low budget). It's about -8C (17F) here right now and it can get down to -30C (-22F), but its pretty rare. There's a lot of forest here with no shortage of firewood or kindling and drinking water is easy to find even if there's no snow.
There are 4 spots to attach items to the outside of the pack: both sides, underside and the shock cord in the front so I would attach my tent and/or tarp, sleeping pad and sleeping bag to the outside. My cheap winter sleeping bag is pretty bulky though so it doesn't fit between the straps that well, but a few carabiners can fix that or just get a higher end sleeping bag.
Pot, medkit (incl. water purification and thermal blanket), water bottle, clothes, tools, firemaking kit, paracord, headlamp etc on the inside. Maybe a hatchet outside the pack.
All that wouldn't leave much room for food though so the best bet is to pack some really calorie dense food or just take a small handheld bag with food.
I could definitely manage longer than 72hrs with that setup, but would it be comfortable? Probably not that much. If you do get a pack as small as mine make sure the compression straps are really long so you can fit all the bulky items on the exterior. I had a 36L Mil-Tec before this and the straps were way too short, could barely fit a closed cell pad there. No such problems with current pack.
