geocaching.com (which aren't really the creators of geocaching in the first place) saw that it was getting popular, they tried as hard as they could to make money off of it. That money goes directly in their pocket for something that's easily bested with a $20 hosting solution and a Google Maps API. Hell, I actually did it at some point myself, took me like 10 hours of coding to make something far better than their website.
If you want to do some geocaching, try some other website, there are many, that proposes the same thing for free.
