>>2237531>If you're keeping livestock, just stop cutting / burning their horns (which is degenerate anyways imo) and put some dogs with them, and the wolves are no longer a problem. Are we sure about that though? Here in France the sheep shepherds where wolves are reintroduced are going fucking nuts and desperate. There's also been some problems in the Pyrénées with reintroduced bears but to a lesser extent, since bears mostly eat plants and don't hunt in packs and absolutely obliterate herds, killing more than they eat, like wolves.
The shepherds get compensation for the most part but they say money doesn't cure anything since these attacks are huge morale blows both on them and parts of their flocks that even if not injured die in despair from all the stress.
I'm all for reintroducing bears and wolves but we need to find a good middle ground and help the shepherds and farmers to both prepare themselves to avoid attacks on their stocks and get good compensation if they do happen. I heard that in Italy wolves are fully reintroduced and untouchable yet there are no problems with shepherds because they're nicely prepared and trained to live with them?
In France sometimes you do see big shepherds dogs in the mountains, "patous" as we call them, "Pyrenean Mountain Dog".
Also the other side of this argument is that farmers growing stuff are going fucking nuclear about wild hogs completely destroying their crops and they're blaming hunters for not killing enough of them (kinda like
>>2237803 said), in this case it might be a good idea to reintroduce wolves that would prey on wild hogs?
