>>2238480That's significantly higher though. More time in the death zone and there's no way you'd make it to the summit from camp 4 and then back to camp 4 before sundown. Which means you need another camp even higher and more deadly.
With that being said, yes. I think with enough sherpa'd supplemental oxygen and the right weather conditions it's possible that some nutjob would've done it. It wouldn't be the tourist trap it is now though. I've been to the basecamp and that's all the "mountaineering" I'll ever need.
