>>2238662>How much of a risk is it to drink straight up creek waterVery little, unless you're in a third world country (or parts of the US, from what I hear).
In general, harmful microorganisms don't survive long in cold water, and viruses don't survive long in any water. So unless you're drinking just downstream of a cadaver, or see an animal pissing into the water, there's no biological risk, and filters are pointless (unless there's dirt in the water, of course).
Chemical contamination is a different matter. If you're between fields, you'll have nitrates in the water. Won't kill, but not exactly healthy. In shitholes, you might also have factory runoff. And there's a minor risk of geological poisons (arsenic, for example), but if those occur, it's usually wellknown in the area.
/out, the only poison you have to worry about is cadaver poison, and unless you have the corpse in sight, it's too diluted to be a risk (Usually - if there's deer Auschwitz upstream, things may be different).
I still carry a filter, so I can get standing water too if necessary, and use it everytime I get water so it stays in use and bacteria that might have gotten in don't have time to grow before the next backwashing. But if you drink only from cool creeks deep in the wood, having a filter is just for peace of mind.
>>2239455Kek. Nice fanfiction. Remember that groundwater includes water that passed through cemeteries - Now you have grandpa in your tap water!
And don't get me started on rain water. It literally absorbs fly farts from the ai. Do yu want to drink fly farts?
No?
Then drink *insert soda brand here*! Now with electrolytes!!!
