>>2249104go to St Vinnies, Salvo's, Lifeline etc (and other poorfag 2ndhand clothing shops). After Fall they tend to fill up with heaps of camping gear and leftover /out/ shit.
Go in Spring if you want to pick up cheap ski gear and snowboards.
Go to backpacker's hostels and ask if you can browse their "Clothes donation" box. People leave behind top quality /out/ gear all the time in these.
>why though?because they have to fly home after 2 months of hiking trails and only have 20kg weight limit on their flight, so it's just cheaper to leave behind those really nice $100 pants or boots than to bring them with.
Facebook buy & sell groups are good too. If you're in the northern hemisphere about 1-2 months ago wouldve been best time to buy, but should still see some shit around.
Overall the results you have (ie: on what type of gear is avaliable, how much of it there is etc) will depend where you are.
if you're near a few ski resorts then you'll mostly only find wintersports stuff.
if you live near the coast you'll only mainly find shitty old fishing rods.
if you live in an /out/ town or /out/ tourist hub then you'll find a bit of everything, but mostly tramping/hiking-related gear.
Lastly, if you want free gas canisters for a camp stove, go to hotels and backpacker's hostels.
Because of the gas in the canisters, it costs money for them to get these properly disposed of so usually they'll stockpile a few hundred until it's worth dumping them.
They'll literally give them away to you in bulk. Just keep in mind most containers will be anywhere between 1/4 up to 7/8ths full.
