>>2258157>>2258214I should really start wearing a trip since I answer most of the hunting questions on this board.
>Where do I shoot the deer?Ideally in the crease where the leg meets the shoulder, but as a beginner you want to aim just behind the front shoulder and an inch or two down. That's a guaranteed double lung. If you aim higher, you'll probably drop it, but you'll also destroy some of the best meat.
>How do I lug that big animal back to my car?Either a sled, or quarter it and pack it out in chunks. There isn't a whole lot of meat on a deer, so it isn't as much of an issue as you might initially think.
>Do I need to clean and skin the deer right after the kill? or do I just take it to a processor? At the very least, you're gonna want to gut it. I personally dress and quarter in the field and do my own processing at home, but that has to do with how deep I hunt and the fact I have the stuff to process it.
>How many can you get? It seems low, but why?Depends on state regs. For my state, it's one animal per tag per sex per season, e.g. if you're lucky enough to draw everything, you're allowed one buck tag and one doe tag per year spread between multiple seasons.
>Do I need a blind, or feed/bait? I'd rather learn tracking skills and whatnot, but will do whatever is best.Depends a lot on where you will be hunting.
>Why do most places not allow Buckshot? its in the name...Shotgun hunting for big game is primarily an eastern thing due to the smaller size of game animals.
>What would be best? or should I just go buy a Mossberg Patriot? would an M1A do? been considering one anywayYou can ask 100 different hunters and get 100 different answers. I like .243 and .308 for deer, .270 WBY for elk.
>I have a 12 Gauge shotgun (mossberg 590), a magnum revolver (model 19), various other hanguns, and a AR15(BRN-16A1, with 4x opticCheck state regs for what's legal. You can get RTH rifles chambered in .30-06 and .270 for pretty fucking cheap these days.
