For going innawoods, I always take chicken. I might take another kind of meat which will be the 'treat', but roasting a strip of chicken is one of the best feels.
Some of the funniest moments camping are when cooking chicken, especially when someone fucks up and ruins someone else's chicken but yours was done 5 minutes ago because you happened to be sat at the best point round the fire. I always end up being the one bringing food camping, but I don't mind.
My friend made a huge tub of trail mix before out of like granola, dried mango and some nuts. It was like those breakfast bars except he filled a 1L bottle with the shit and we just "drank" it on the walk. Good times.
To be honest though, any kind of meat is going to be one of the best meals when you're out and about. I like having cooked meats, like pork or beef and then keep the left overs in a little bag for the next day's walk.
