>>2251520never used to. big fire in slave lake 10 years ago? all the bears got pushed out of slave lake.
worked in fort mac area. all of a sudden bears got so bad that a lot of the bigger oilfield work camps are putting up electrified fences topped with barbed wire because any bear deaths are charged to the lease owner and we are killing a lot of hungry bears. owners hire contractors to move bears to save money. trucks with bear dogs show up, kennels on the back.
went camping a lot because two weeks on and one off. home sucks, and i worked very close. great lake, great fishing, right next to a conklin area air strip. one unorganized campsite on public land, no people, good fishing. easy 5 to 7 pound pike every dusk, hand to god. nothing for the rest of the day. lied to tourists, to keep it safe. drove there in a small car. but then became totally unnerved by proximity to bears. they were never aggressive, but they were so close. you know when you think its something big and really its just something small? it works the other way.
i still like camping but i know now its not my senses that keep me safe. its safe practices.
