I frequent this board, yet I never leave my computer screen. I am not an outdoorsy type person, yet I love to fantasize about camping gear and doing outside stuff like fishing and hiking.

Well I'm an army reservist soldier still so should be able to get a bit /out/. Also I'll probably move back home to Devon in a couple of months if I don't find a real job soon.

Same here. Some years ago I fell down an abandoned mine shaft with nothing but my pc. It gets lonely down here but the wifi reception is amazing. I often go on sites like this to reminisce about what life was like on the top-side. Every day in this well is grueling, no sunlight, no fresh air. Some day I will climb out and see daylight again...someday

I know that feel, OP. I live in a fairly flat area, which keeps me from spending time outside climbing hills and whatnot.

There is a wildlife reserve a few tons over that has a bluff several hundred feet high (pic related, a throwaway shot I took), but I'd love somewhere that I could walk to.

I'm the same. I can't afford gear and if i left my parents would give me a billion questions.

My first step will be walking to the small forest down the lane tomorrow, I'm just worried about passing the farm house on the way, if they see me or come out.

You may laugh but i live in Britain, it's illegal to wild camp, you have to go to designated campsites with toilet blocks and such, and it's illegal to even walk between fields.

The most you'll get (unlikely but a possibility) is a curious farmer coming up to you and asking you to state your business on his land. County council owned land never have patrols, so wild camping on council owned land is not an issue.

Stop finding excuses and go fucking do what you want, be respectful to the land and keep a low profile.

I have most of what I need, but I have no friends to go with. Need a tent and a map, but that's all I need. Can take the metro to forests, or the train to the mountains. And I've been wanting to get out for a couple of years now. I used to go to some kind of school where we could go out all the time, and I've been wishing to do it again, but no friends to go with. And going alone just feels so pointless. Everything feels pointless when you are alone.

Brotip. Deicide on an easy accessible forest with nice nature. Find something to do when out that you enjoy, buy a camera and take photos. Be creative and shit.
Personally I usually just get out to a place I like, brew a cup of coffee, lay down and listen to music on my phone/mp3 (I have a mini-speaker).

Naw, I actually get out quite often, but in my mind I am a lot more hardcore than I am in reality. It's mostly just dayhikes and easy stuff... and it really makes my gear faggotry kinda pointless.

I really should do a week long hike again next year or climb some proper mountains in the Alps.

The nearest vaguely natural area around me is an hour drive away and I don't have a car. I'm now spending my days browsing /out/ and watching youtube videos of people hiking.

According to google maps (lel) its a 3 hour walk. Half of it through a city.

I could probably get there reasonable easily but for what's actually there it's not worth it. Try looking up UK Portsmouth to see what I'm dealing with.
