>>2252636all this stuff is pretty inexpensive;
insulated coveralls are indespensible. theyre cheap($200), durable, available everywhere, and fire resistant. work outside, no trees, lots of wind, -40c, all i wear under my suite is jeans and a hoodie. spend extra $20 get a brand with metal zipper. zipper is always the first to go, plastic wont last. replacement zipper about $15, glue on with speed sew. buy them too tall. shrink along length. when you dry them get a wedgie when reaching overhead.
gloves i like uninsulated split leather gloves. wear magic gloves as a liner. you can wash magic gloves. clean and dry is warmer. insulated work gloves have to be thrown out if the liners get too dirty too stay warm. work gloves better than ski gloves. durable, cheaper, fire resistant, move burning logs with hands.
synthetic socks no1. wool sucks. wool is more expensive, it holds moisture, less durable, and less elastic slides around. the only wool socks i liked were mostly synthetic.
for my head i like polar fleece hoods. really good at keeping heat from leaving coat. like a touque and scarf together. on really bad days put duct tape over bridge of nose.
i wear regular boots if im not standing in snow. for work boots composite toe is much warmer than steel toe. if im standing in deep snow i wear insulated rubber boots and bama socks. i change my socks a few times a day.
long underwear; polar fleece warmest, then double layer regular knit, then waffle knit, then single layer.
