Why is this board so against buying quality gear?
I understand consumerism, but buying quality packs, clothes, etc is extremely important. You want your gear to be durable and with load bearing gear you want it to carry the weight very well to mitigate risk of injury.

get a good thin liner sock and thick wool sock combo; I used to have heel rub issues and it helps prevent it
Honestly I recommend checking out surplus boots when they pop up. I got some Czech leather boots and german tropical boots that are very comfy for 30$ and 15$ respectively (tho the german boots are worth 60$ I got lucky in a 15 dollar raffle). I say this because people will recommend overpriced boots that may not fit you well.

Now if you add a MOLLE kidney pad and shoulder straps and replace the otiginal frame with a 1606AC it might be comfortable, but at that point you might as well buy an Osprey Talon 44, or any other midrange civilian pack, for the amount of money you're spending.t2gjn

You could easily build two for less than the cost of an Osprey Talon 44. But if I make another one I will spend the extra few bucks for FILBE straps. The MOLLE straps aren't designed for the 1606 frame (and you want the MC not the AC).
