>>2255160>when people talk of "/out/ movies" you don't think of movies? That's a semantic argument about the definition of "movies" which seems to be constrained by mainstream Hollywood's definition of "feature length film" or something. Sure, under some theory of film some of the shorter little 10-15 minute films in BMFF aren't "movies", but when curated together in a 2-3 hour contiguous block, it can certainly feel like a "feature length movie". And certainly some films like "Free Solo" or "Valley Uprising", which are 1.5-2 hour long feature films and even got some showing in mainstream theaters, would fall in with the Hollywood limited definition of "movie".
It's more just an (admittedly pretentious) observation that, when you ask /out/ "hey, seen any good outdoor movies lately?" they come back with like "The Revenant", etc, and when I ask that same question hanging out at the local club, gear store, climbing gym, or at some backcountry group site the answers are more like "I finally watched Meru, it was epic." Admittedly that's colored by my culture of "outdoor people" being mostly "west coast, leave no trace" types who actually *recreate* outdoors, versus /out/, which I'm pretty sure is at least 2/3rds alt-right innawoods and survivalist LARPers for whom the primary function of going outdoors is some political statement or personal-identity dick measuring contest. So watching people actually having fun doing doing epic shit outdoors for personal enjoyment sorta challenges their identity.
