New to backpacking, What is a good budget water filter to start out with. It's okay if it's something I will need to replace in a few years.

also not sure if it matters but i would be in Jasper mostly where the lake/river water is fairly clean to start with.

The LifeStraw is not the best around and it's disposable, but it's like 20$ and I heard it's breddy gud. Lasts at least 1000 gallons before it's thrown out, which is plenty.

filters out the smallest particles of any filter.
totally field strippable.
might be a little heavier than other filters, but it's expedition-quality.

was just looking at that one, pretty much the cheapest one that mec sells. Only thing I'd be worried about is whether it would work with my osprey bladder? Is it easy to find adapters for this sort of thing?

it screws right on. Any widemouth nalgene-ish threads will work.

I use it on my widemouth klean kanteen.
I also use it with my platypus big zip, just put the bladder around the filter.

Drops are easy and cheap.

I haven't worked much with filters, but in the tropics use drops, and in beaver country (giardia), I either drink straight from the lakes (depending on their size), or boil my water. So far that has been easy enough for me.
