Long story short considering taking a job out there and was very surprised by all the outdoor things there are to so over there.

Mount Charleston, Redrock, Lake Mead, close to Zion.... Etc

I'm debating between Vegas and Coastal Florida but I think Vegas may win out.

Currently in a cold Midwestern state that has a ton of water

do not. Vegas is cheap as fuck for a western city. Decent outside of the intense heat in the summer. Tons of shit to do out there and lots more stuff within a few hours drive. Flordia has jackshit

Lake mead is radioactive sludge stay out and don't eat the fish. The mountains on all sides are amazing. The city is arguably the only modern city on the continent being developed to its current highs after the advent of flight as opposed to trains and trucks. Politically it's everything a Mongolian basket weaver forum poster could want, the most faggy party youve ever seen with easy access to guns, light on taxes, and easy on business rights. Socially liberal and economically conservative. Only locals leave in the green, control your vices, and don't fuck with the homeless. They're a different breed.

Thanks anons, I think a new adventure may be happening for my family.

I love watersports but I think Vegas will be so much fun. Though I'm definitely keeping my house in a Midwest beach town to escape to in the summer.

Vegas all day. Headed out there this week for camping/exploration endeavours. Tons of off-roading, several national parks driving distance away. 90% of the state is all BLM land. CA coast is 4 hours away. Got desert and high mountains all in one. I live in Phoenix and considering the same move in the future.

Vegas itself sucks unless you like gambling, bright lights and cheap buffets. It feels like a giant suburb, no different than most sunbelt cities. What makes it attractive from an /out/ perspective is the weekend trip options within a reasonable driving range:
>Red Rock Canyon
>Grand Canyon
>Zion NP
>Bryce Canyon
>Death Valley
>Kings Canyon
>Yosemite NP
>Sierra Nevada
>Pacific Ocean
In Nevada alone there's enough public land that would take several lifetimes to explore. Tons of cool abandoned shit to explore too. The Colorado River if you like rafting.

Las Vegas is pretty cool to visit, especially Red Rock and Mt Charleston. That whole mountain is a pretty sweet hike. Nonetheless, FL is superior in my opinion because of the easy access to the sea. Also, springs are the shit, man. You can't free dive out of Florida.

I'm Irish, visited Vegas (first time outside the east coast) for the first time just before Covid struck last year and I was very struck with the raw beauty of the surrounding mountains. Outside the city, I've never seen a night sky so clear in my life, it was like a dream

The night sky in rural Nevada is something to behold. The mountains? Not really unless you're hung up on "muh elevation". No aesthetic appeal whatsoever. Same goes for most of the western mountains including Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.
