Look at the austrian army pullover, for example. Those things are great (in fact, I'm wearing one right now). Now compare those to Fjällraven, where pullovers cost double, do half, and will ride up the moment you lift your arms above your belt.
Also framed packs that will survive 40kg loads, and are tougher than any civilian bag I've seen so far (yes, I'm talking about the first generation alice).

For example, the German army has Carinthia sleeping bags. Same stuff as the civilian ones, but half the price due to the larger order numbers (which you won't benefit from unless you're in the army and "lose" yours, meaning you'll pay for the replacement) and about a quarter of the price for barely used surplus.
Not all milsurp is half rotten american garbage.
