Want a good watch for camping and outdoors. Prefer analog not digital. Don't want to spend more than $300 max. Don't know where to start and don't want to spend unnecessarily

Timex makes several sub $300 watches inspired by old military designs. I've never owned a Timex, so I can't speak personally, but most reviewers seem to think they're good for the money.

It's smart as a dress watch, but black on black on black isn't very conducive to telling the time...
Solar is infinitely superior to having to recharge a smart watch all the time.

i have the old one with the date window. this ones no longer in production. the newer ones don't have a date window but have a nicer face, imo.
it's a really nice watch. very accurate, robust, low profile.

This is honestly one of the main things I look for. I've got a pro-trek that always got hooked up on shit - I removed the strap and clipped it to one of my pack straps where it doesn't bother me.
I'd really like a Garmin or something, but they're so damn thick I'd never wear it.

I wore a Rothco reproduction Vietnam-era army watch. The windup version. It was pretty kino, lasted through three years in food service and five years in construction before I ditched it for another watch. The crystal is all scratched up and the band needs replacing, but it still runs just fine. Cost me $50.

Now I wear a Luminox special forces-issue watch. Fiberglass body, tritium vials, and a calendar. You don't need anything else. $300.

Soviet Power also sells some cool vintage-style wristwatches, but most are modern reproductions. They won't break the bank, they work fine, and they have some cool designs that will appeal to your autism/LARPing tendencies.

Also, check the catalogue next time.

check out POBEDA, some watch nerds recommended it to me as they're cheap as hell because there's a surplus of them and the "movement" is good.

They're mechanical, rather than automatic, meaning that you'll have to wind every 40-50 hours to keep it going, but for a $30-50 watch with accurate time, it's hard to complain.

Casio AQ-S800W. An analog-digital quartz watch. Minute and hour hand are analog (hands and all indices are lumed), the small digital display shows seconds and offers a bunch more features. Day and date (perpetual calendar, so no need to reset when a month has less than 31 days), stopwatch, 5 alarms and a daily reminder alarm. In practice it'll always be at high charge if you don't lock it into a dark drawer. Maybe in like 15 years the rechargeable battery may die, but it's easily replaced. Do make sure that the version you buy has the lumed white indices, the one with orange indices isn't lumed afaik.
I bought it as my first watch recently because the reviews online are so positive. Personally the only thing I'd change is the strap, which for me isn't super comfortable due to having one square shape bend in.But I'm a first time watch wearer, so maybe it just takes some getting used to. I've ordered an elastic strap anyhow.

Biggest downside is that apparently the hands don't glow like it appears they should at night and I don't know how long the charge will last, its solar powered

The Suunto Core has been mentioned a few times already and i'll chime in as one of the people that own the watch and can recommend it. I've used it on my hikes in the wilderness areas of Finland and it's great in the sense that you can predict when it is going to rain by using the barometer and you can also predict your current altitude to better sync yourself with what you are seeing on a paper map. The temp erature feature might prove handy in some situations. I haven't used it that much. The only imaginable downside that I can find is that it uses a CR2032 battery that has to be replaced at least every year.

I’m partial to the Sinn 104, it’s got low and high pressure resistance to 200m (incredible for a pilot watch), good lume, countdown bezel which I like, highly antimagnetic, day date, and honestly just looks really nice like a 50s vintage Rolex or Fifty Fathoms. It’s in the 1000-2000 USD range so it’s like a beater Rolex if you’re rich and a luxury Hamilton if you’re poor.

Obviously more expensive than you need (any $20 Casio will do) but it’s about as expensive as you can go before you become a trail mugging or murder target for your watch.

Pobeda, raketa, luch are some ussr watched you can get for under $20. Just look it up on eBay. Here’s a luch that I got for $12 paired with a $15 strap. All mechanical movements and they’re decent enough. Not water resistant and they are acrylic.
