If it fell over, the fatwood is often at the base of the limbs. If you look for trees that have had time to rot already, you can knock branches off with the back of an axe and you'll see the fatwood just about fall out of the shitty rotten wood. you shave it into fluff and it's saturated with pine resin, so it catches a spark easy.
Punk wood is dry, rotten wood that has a lot of airspace in it. I have never used it, but I imagine it's similar, in that you make fluff out of it with a knife and then spark that. I think fatwood is nice because it's naturally water repellent and has a bit of accelerant built in. Can't comment on Punkwood.
