What's going /out/ in the US like?
Isn't it a bit... artificial? With all the permits and national parks pandering to the average Joe and tourists and all.
Maybe I'm somewhat prejudgemental, but I imagine the average /out/ trip to go down something like:
>pack clothes, cooler, etc. into car
>bring car up to the national park parking spot
>greet a park ranger while clutching all your gear, like a little kid clutches his inflatable duck swim ring and snorkel while impatiently waiting for the waterpark to open up
>ur'e not goings to be using any of that on our trees, are ya?
>n-no sir, mr park officer (whew, barely avoided an arrest)
>walk the pre-trampled trail for a few kilometers, reading the signs that appear here and there; "Camping area: 5 miles ahead", "Lake to the left", "McDonalds"
>set up camp
>the silence is abrupted by the sound of other people in nearby camps wheezing and groaning as they struggle to set up their tents
>maybe a car horn in the distance, or the ice cream truck playing it's trademark melody
