yep, i live by the ocean and in the midst of the pacific flyway so get to see all the various types that migrate throughout the year. a curious thing happened while sitting by the water today, i was playing harmonica and a huge flock of seagulls came across and landed in the foreground. they remained in place without moving till i finished playing then the whole flock flew off again. it was like they were listening to my concert

There is an old meme about a guy feeding crows by his work and throwing rocks at the ones in a nearby park which resulted in a crow war of epic proportions...I've always wanted to try to replate his work.
I, however, do a crow funeral (leave a dead crow out to keep crows out of your territory) every 3 or 4 years on my property because those fucktards ate my robins eggs.

Love birding but always hated the "honour system" of it all, that's the main thing that took me away from eBird and all those apps.

Falconry I a blood sport. Its hunting, and is a pretty exclusive society. Falconry folks are all about the well being of the birds and they vett newcomers pretty rigorously.
However they realize the sport needs new blood and it will die if they don't take on apprentices.
Find a local hawking club and plan on hanging around for a few years beating brush and cleaning mews.

I'm working on building an owl box for a great horned owl this weekend. One showed up a week or so ago and ate all my mice. I identified the species by it's hoot. I'm trying to get them to roost closer to my house.

I also get humming birds, tree swallows, blue jays, rabbits, foxes, groundhogs, chipmunks and squirrels, deer and turkey, and occasionally a golden eagle swings by to hunt. The lack of hawks and crows nests is likely why the owls are not close to my house since they take over old nests.

Yeah they hoot just before the break of dawn. I don't mind though. The hoots don't wake me up, but the foxes will bang into the house chasing rabbits in circles and that DOES wake me up. And mice in the house are loud and obnoxious as fuck for various reasons. If I can actually get them to roost here it will be a big upgrade.

They are not native to my country and they are a pest for fruitfarms. However I love the fact we now have parakeets in my country, most vibrant bird in the country (except maybe a kingfischer). Few years ago they were only in the city, but now we get them in the sticks too

What are the qualifications?
I like looking at birds, bring a monocular or binoculars when I go /out/, and know a few local birds. But I get nervous when I see the hardcore birdwatchers out there because they ask weird questions impossible for me to answer. I stay away from them because they seem to gatekeep everything down to why I don't carry a notebook..

It could Be. Not the best at identification. However I did have a house finch identification through sound. However it was not this exact bird.
