Can anyone point me towards a brand/store with heavy merino base-second layers available in EU?
If it's not super expensive that's a plus.

Decathlon stuff is allright but the only have very light stuff, pic related.

Woolpower is the gold standard for merino second layers. Ullmax makes cheap woolterry (55% wool). Those are just two that come to my mind. Most merino is base layer, or basically base layer thickness.

Btw merino is most useful for not scratching, that's why baselayers are merino. For a second layer, any decent wool will do.

I've seen some second layer stuff that seemed decently thick.
Pic related is 330g/m2. bit expensive tho.

I wanted to combine a 150g/m shirt with a 250g-300g second layer for maximum warmth and smell reduction so I can wear it for multiple days.
I could go for a synth second layer but I'm afraid it'll be rotten after a day.

I'm seeing that many of these merino base layers have a 100% polyester lining.

Does that make any sense? Yes you get the warmt but the polyester is gonna suck up your sweat and stink like shit so one migth as well use a cheaper wool for the outer layer.

Haven't experienced any odors after 3-4 day hikes tho i only have some 10yo set that has the labels worn out but it does look comparable so the wool mix is probably similar.
They are not something special and skimp on marketing nowadays, but being a sports clothing company they kinda have to have their shit together.
Poke them on faceberg or insta im sure some intern will drop you copypasta answer :)

Thirding woolpower, I had been looking for something warm to put between my long Johns and shell pants. American sources talked about "fleece" pants, but I found no such thing in the EU. Then a sailor told me about woolpower, and I got their thicker underpants. They're not marketed as a mid-layer per se, but they've worked great.

Do you guys wear 100% merino wool base layer for hiking in the winter or is a mix OK too? I'm looking at some devold stuff which seems to be decent but I wonder if I should go for a polyester mix and how thick heavy the wool should be.
