>>2264778I actually went on a hike this week with someone who started freaking out about being lost
It was crazy
I was navigating, we were never lost
We walked a big 15km or so main loop looking for a side trail that leads to a secluded beach that was a town 200 years ago
Ended up eventually finding the side trail but it was getting later so we couldn't follow it the whole way because we needed a couple hours to get back before dark
The lower trail we were on was very wet and treacherous and I suspected that the higher main trail that we saw a lot of people driving 4x4s on earlier would be a lot easier to hike back on even though it was a further distance
We got to an unexpected crossroad and I used a compass to choose the right path to take and that's when he really started losing it and he basically lost it the whole time until we got back to the spot where we turned off originally even though we met a few people on the way back who confirmed we were going in the right direction!
Made it back to the trail head with plenty of daylight to spare and him denying he was freaking out
