Besides dropping empty magazines into, I bet that would be useful for foraging, like if you are hunting for mushrooms or picking clams or crayfish out of the water, just drop em in the pouch

The tactical type ones tend to fold up smaller and are easier to clean, tend to be cheaper. If you want a more one like the OP, I'd suggest checking out Badger claw outfitters, they go more natural route of using leather and canvas, their product is pretty solid, not being stupid dumb expensive.

Regular dump pouch is superior. Best use for firearms. For intentional foraging there are better choices and for suprise use there are more compact alternatives, making for a convenient addition rather than something that takes up not insignificant belt space.

That looks pretty retarded, but if you want a really sturdy belt rig get the 'AWS 50725 belt shooters system'. It has an inner belt that stays in the pant loops and an outer portion that you attach all your pouches too that just velcros on top of the inner belt. It also has an optional D-ring buckle that you can use for emergency rappelling. I know a few guys that run this rig for a pistol open carry setup, and its a solid platform; I was thinking of picking one up myself

Love the concept but wish it was in something lighter than leather and lighter and faster drying than cotton canvas. I'm not even an ultralight fag but those are simply inferior materials for the application and would make problems in use. Something like a ~300d case and ~70 denier ripstop dump pouch would be right I think.

It would also be nice if it was a button instead of a snap, snaps are good for frequently toggled closures but I don't think this would be and buttons are repairable.

I can fit two cloth grocery bags in a snack sized Ziplock bag. I actually carry four cloth grocery bags in a standard ziplock when I gather mushrooms, rose hips, or things like allheal. Some things, like Indian stove pipes have to go directly into alcohol jars.
Non retarded gatherers (eg not you) know what's in season and where to get them. If you think you are walking down the trail and notice "hey I want that plant thingy to take with me 5 more miles to camp" ... That hip thing isn't what you want. I also pack plastic bags for trash... literally grocery bags are perfect.
Again, this is a >>>/k/ cool guy kit but lame as shit for actual herbalists and mycology types.

Nah, he's right. Folks who do the national scenic trails are the diehards of the ultralight crowd. There's no immediate need for a long distance backpacker to have this - even if there were there are plastic options that are available that are 1) waterproof and 2) definitely lighter. Plus, if you're backpacking serious distance, you're going to be wearing a lot of your pack's weight on your hips, so a 1-2' protrusion off your belt is going to be asking for an oddly placed blister.

I'm active military, so my /out/ trips are usually field training, or taking my issued gear and using it more (with some mods added) so my deployments are less shitty.
