He wanted to join the army (officer) but failed to qualify due to poor eyesight.
I met the guy in 2019 while attending one of his courses in the UK. The group spent the afternoon searching for wild edibles and eating roasted mushrooms with him. Can confirm, genuinely nice guy.

he probably survived because the dude can go years without eating anything. guess the first rule of bushcraft is to have a couple months of calories saved up in the gut and maybe some hypertension to keep the blood flowing.

What you also probably don't know is that he suffered from untreated Lyme disease for many years, which limited his capacity for physical exercise.

His shop is very competitive on price for clothing.
A lot of the stuff is cheaper there than anywhere else. I've bought a few things from his store. Most recently a merino and possum hat (£24) - it's really nice.
