Yeah, try to do a blend of /out/ and city stuff, only do 8-9 day trips so we try to pack a lot of different things in and unfortunately can't spend as much time or do as involved stuff as we like but we see a lot so it's still pretty cool to do a couple of short day hikes in different scenic areas.
Usually fly in to a location and drive to a destination 1000+ miles away, not too bad on price with friends.
With friends (3 people total):
I've done Vegas to LA (went east first so we did Grand Canyon (West, not GCNP), Zion, Glen and Antelope Canyons in Page, lave tubes in Flagstaff, Slide Rock in Sedona, then mostly non/out/ stuff unless you count zoos and whale watching as /out/.
San Fran to Seattle (Yosemite to Olympic) with (usually quick) stops at Muir Woods, near Napa, Whiskeytown/Shasta, Crater Lake, Mt Theilsen, Willamete NF near Bend, Base of Mt Hood and Olympic, plus city stuff along the way. Didn't expect there to be a lot of snow since it was early May but due to that we didn't get to do Rainier and St Helens maybe next time.
Yellowstone to Banff/Jasper, so mostly /out/ stuff like the main attractions of Yellowstone a quick hike in a state park in Idaho, Helena NF, a Flathead Lake trail, Glacier, some stuff in Fernie/Elko AB, the premiere lakes of Banff, Athabasca, some waterfalls in Jasper, short canoe thing in Emerald Lake in Yoho, and a couple waterfalls in Kootenay. Then boring shit before we flew home from Calgary.
NY metro area to the Smokies and back was also good, did bits of Shenandoah, Pisgah NF, Smokies, and Assategue
Also a few short trips to the AT in Harpers Ferry and Seneca Rocks in one, NY metro to Acadia with longer hikes there and White Mountains NF (solo), NY metro to Niagara with the top state parks of NY in between, some trails in PA on the way to OH (shithole, but I still wanna check out Cuyahoga), and a revisit to parks around Vegas like Red Cliffs, Spring Mountains NRA, DeVa, Zion, Bryce, and Dixie NF
