So I'm a guy that moved to the USA a few years ago from Australia, always loved the outdoors and hiking, but I'd like to have a go at hunting. I've picked up a 22 caliber rifle and have done a fair bit of practicing with steel and paper targets and I think I'd like to get my feet wet and try hunting rabbits.
I live close to the southern part of the Los Padres National Forest. The website (https://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/lpnf/recreation/hunting) says that I can hunt there. So can I just walk up a fire road or hiking trail with my rifle over my shoulder and start looking for rabbits, or am I breaking laws by doing that?
