I've gone hiking in the Atlas every year since 2009 and it's the safest, most comfy region I've ever been (I've visited over 40 countries for context). Literally tens of thousands of white people go Imlil, where those girls got killed, every year. A single incident doesn't make the entire country a terrorist hotbed. I can't emphasize how serious even minor crimes against tourists are taken there.
