The recent shutdown of I-95 in Virginia got me wondering how y'all prepare for getting trapped on a highway. A lot of folks had issues with food or meds.
>daily emergency preparedness kits
>packing for cross country
>planning for the weather
>sleeping gear

I have a backpack with granola bars, Vienna sausages, mre napkins, moist towelettes, a poncho, a woobie, and a few bottles of water. I also have a change of cloths. If I'm driving cross country I'll include hiking boots and extra pairs of socks.

you should always have shit in the boot of your car in case you break down and it takes a couple of days to get rescued.
i have 3 days worth of food, a week's worth of water, a camp stove and a bed frame for the back just in case.
ever since a buddy of mine got caught up in the 2011 Japan Tsunami shit i've done that.
poor dude was living out of the back of his company car for 2 weeks in the tail end of winter before the roads were cleared enough for him to get out of there.

I have a bright orange Pelican case with a wind up weather radio/flashlight/charger combo, gloves, socks, underwear, a hatchet, tinder kit, paracord, Quikstik, those palm oil infused 3 day ration bars, and rain suit. And a collapsible 20L water canister and one of those little first aid bags you can get with left over HSA money.

This shit happens every year in Virginia and Maryland. They get one or two ice or snow storms a year and that’s it, so they don’t invest in snowplows, salt trucks, etc. And since people have so little experience driving in snow and ice, they have summer tires on their cars and either drive exactly the same speed as if the roads were clear and slide off the road, or they go obscenely slow and get stuck on the slightest hill. Northern states get much more snow and ice and you literally never have this problem. Even if you’re someone with proper tires and experience driving in that weather, you’re still not going to be able to get around the 14,000 dipshits in front of you who are stopped or wrecked. The only solution is to stay off the roads down there the one or two days a year that conditions are shit.

Holy shit I knew america was a complete third world shithole, but I didn't think it was that bad. Do you literally not have one snow plow? 1 foot? that is literally nothing. We got 10 feet here over the last 3 days and still hasn't stopped. Everyone still goes to work as normal.

You did. I mean, environment is environment. You could make sure you leave with a full tank of gas and run the heater as much as is practical to keep the interior of the car above freezing. If you wanted to be dramatic about it you could get metal cans and use a fire or stove to melt them if they freeze.

The USA is enormous. As a northerner, we regularly ridicule the south for this kind of shit. Having said that, if you get stuck on the side of the road in a snow storm in the north, you better get out of your car or have a good way to signal, because the plow might just put your shitbox in the treeline if they don't see you.

I keep a cooler full of bottled water in my trunk. The cooler gives you a few degrees leeway before it freezes. I also keep an alcohol stove, HEET and a basic mess kit, for melting snow and ice. Lifeboat rations, Harbor Freight moving blankets, hand warmers, those tents and ponchos and sleeping bags made out of space blankets, and firestarting supplies.

If it's going to be a few days, you really should pack a onahole that is dry in a freezer zip lock. If you go into your local health office they probably give out lubricant and spermacide in these little packets. Take a few of those free. Not worth a whole bottle.
