Of course I'm talking about water bottles. So what's your favorite? For me it's pick related. Nalgenes are just God-tier.

The durability of the 'Nalgenes' is great, and it's great carry one on, one off for water purification. But I have to say the fob that holds the cap to the bottle after it has opened is uselessly weak and gets in the way.

Any advice on how to possibly nigger-rig my way out of this?

I prefer stainless myself. Can boil water with it.
Aluminium doesn't make sense to me: can't boil water in it (that lining).
If I can't boil with it, then go nalgene, weighs less.

Fitted mine with a quick-connect on the hose, I can swap the bladder between my dirt pack and my snow pack easily, without having to fish the hose out of the pack.

I have Nalgene bottles for when i'm at work. But innamountains, camelbak wins.

Plastic coke bottles.

They have the advantage of being able to be crushed flat a couple of times, so I can take 2 or 3 of them in the 'light storage' bag hanging off the back of the motorbike-- and later filling them at a stream to take back water to camp, then not needing to refill for the rest of the night.

If I drank cheap wine, I could also go with a Stanley Cask bladder.

Well it's just a bottle with a charcoal filter, so it stands to reason it could probably filter water alright.

Not sure how much you'd be able to put through it without it clogging, so you'd probably be better served with more advanced filtration devices, but in an emergency/lost innawoods survivan situation then sure, it'd be great.

Given they're supplied in a box to begin with, how resilient are these things? Are they the sort of thing where if your pack got dropped and it was next to something pointy (not a knife or whatever, like a square compass or something) it would be punctured?

Also how do they stand up to being squashed while full, easy to burst or not?

Every Aussie town has a liquor dealer or supermarket.

Camelbak all day.

It's incredibly convenient while backpacking. I like to take frequent, small sips of water, and there's no way I'm going to pull off my entire pack to get my Nalgene or have it banging around on my waist.

I bring a Nalgene along as well that I fill with Cytomax and a few scoops of pre-workout to keep me carbed and caffeinated when I do take a few minute break and take my pack off.

Nalgene can hold bioling water, so you dont have to cool your water before pouring, so you can get decent instant coffee, you cant boil in it, but if you are not carrying some sort of stainless cup/pot container then your need to buy one. what is the durability on those sigg things when you put it in the fire?

my dad had one on the top of his Jeep while he was fixing something underneath it. When he drove the Jeep down of the ramps he had it on it got crushed. I spent 2 months in rural China and used plastic, disposable water bottles to carry water in my day bag, and had one metal bottle for drinking on trek. I didn't boil water - ever. I used silk to filter 'fresh' river water into a bottle and used water purification tablets to treat it.

I had a camelback hydration system, but all I can say is, what a lot of utter garbage. Waste of time.

I used to have pic related but the main problem I had with it that the filter got used out really fast (this one was 150 liters or so, always depends on water quality) so nowadays I just carry a small filter with me that does up to 2000 Liters easily.

only time I've ever seen a Nalgene break was when a friend of mine's froze solid. IIRC, he took the bottom half and started using it as a mug.
