I was, I was working towards my A license last year but then I got COVID and got into fishing and just stopped going, also because having to drive 2 hours every day and be there at 10am fucking sucked, I'll finish my license this year hopefully.

The only way you die on one of these is by being retarded and not clipping in properly. Seriously not that hard to look down and see your carabiner is clipped to a loop. A lot of places have two carabiners which means you have to fuck up twice.

Get a harness and hang from like a tree at low height. You will feel how solid it is and feel better about climbing higher.

There is nothing wrong with downclimbing, in fact it's better for training than just letting go. If you really want to lessen the fear then let go at very low heights and progressively let go higher and higher. You shouldn't let go of any fear completely though, as it keeps you sharper. I would say just keep down climbing until you find a belay partner and even then, keep down climbing because it's good for you.
