I remember reading about someone having small scale success using banana leaves and coconut husks. It was in the comments on a youtube video though. If you're aiming to grow any species of Oyster, it would probably work, the things can grow off of old sneakers(for example)

I grow oyster mushrooms in tropical land. Really easy to do as they will grow almost anywhere, but humidity is necessary for growth.

I did a little bit of experimenting for different growth mediums, I didn't try banana leaves but I did try dry tree leaves. The main issue with leaves is that they don't hold humidity well, and you need the mycelium to be over 80% humidity. With leaves, as opposed to other mediums, the water will evaporate very quickly and the rest will simply flow to the bottom, making it really hard for the mycelium to grow.

That said, all I did was take leaves and crush them by hand into smaller pieces, maybe you could try different levels of shredding, perhaps making them into a mulch will give you better results.

if you want to experiment with substrates, oysters are very versatile
if you're not getting good results try switching strains
if you have the equipment, you can also try sterilizing some banana leaves and habituating the shroomies to them over a few gens before dividing and doing your fruiting
