>>2285039it really, really depends on where you live anon. (ie the nearer you are to a diverse, multicultural city, the more likely a trespasser on your land is up to no fucking good)
Basically you don't really know someone's intentions if they trespass. More than likely they are just going to be traversing your property to get to BLM land or something similar -- which would be fine. If someone asked permission first, and agreed not to cut down trees, make trails, hunt, fish, litter, camp etc etc fine -- have fun.
but when people are not up front about such things, you have to wonder why. It's a bit of moral hazard nowadays to assume that random_trespasser_01 isn't going to shoot your house/kid accidentally while hunting. Or more likely, make camp and leave behind their literal shit and litter.
Also in the US, sadly if someone is injured on your property through no fault of your own, you can still be found liable. Further once they setup camp, you put yourself in a tricky legal position as far as removing them from your property. Squatter's rights are a thing. So the best course of action for your own protection is just a blanket "GTFO" policy.
Personally though if i know the owner is a corporation i don't fucking care, i'll transit through; but if it's a private citizen, i'd either ask or just avoid it entirely. In fact i do this quite often, my land abuts a very thin strip of weyerhauser forest (maybe 100') and on the other side is quite literally thousands of BLM forest. When Weyerhaueser partitioned the original parcel, they did it in such manner that their property encircles all access to the BLM land, in an attempt to control access. Fuck them.
