Op, there’s fewer options for monoculars, but they tend to be cheaper and harder to fuck up. If you just want something to bounce around in the bottom of your pack get a cheapo barska. Buy it in a store and look out the window about 50% seem like garbage out the box, but the other half is serviceable. If it’s going on a tripod get a better optic.
If your optic is going to stay out get Binos and a chest harness. pouched or unpouched is personal preference.
Vortex and Nikon both make glass that seems like a suspiciously good deal. Vortex in particular has some 500usd scopes that go toe to toe with Swarovski. Nikon has some great small pairs around a c note, best part is they look like garbage so people don’t ask to use yours instead of getting theirs from their pack. I’d go for the lightest pair of binos that will let you 100% identify a person at whatever range you’re thinking you’ll use them at.
