My zipper just will not stay up when I am in my bag. It just wont together even if I am not moving around much.
What is going on here?

Am I alone with this problem?
Will a bag liner help ?

Sounds like a bad zipper. If the bag is a nice one, the manufacturer might fix it for you (for money) if not, maybe it's time for an upgrade.

Hijacking this thread. I live in Florida, most of the years it probably to hot to warrant a sleeping bag but I need the weight of covers to fall asleep. Is there any reason I would shell out more money on a hot weather bag? I get cooler Temps the extra money goes into a better fill but what does a $100 hot bag offer over a $30 one?

usually the problem with sleeping bags is that the zipper is stuck, even worse with winter ones where there is velcro involved and you have to really fight it
knot a 10cm cord on the puller so you can always find it and do either of these >>2289178

Hey guys, I have a -12 sleeping bag and a -15 sleeping bag. Do they stack at all? as in... do I end up with a -20 bag, a -15 bag, or a -27 bag?

something i wish existed. something to just keep the moisture, dew and critters off, but also could breath and let in a breeze. maybe it could be moisture wicking too. trying to sleep in 80F + is unbearable. ive tried using just the military MSS bivvy but it does not breath well enough.

Are you leaving the tab pulled up maybe? A working zipper should sort of lock when you fold down the tab after closing it. Maybe the works is getting a little stuck open, and it needs a tiny bit of lube? Does the bag have one of those velcro tabs to go over the zipper and keep the tab down?

Aren't you wearing clothes too?
I know it can be a little itchy, but it's good when you settle in. By the time it gets properly cold you'll either be used to the material or glad your warm where it matters.
That or you could use a sleeping bag and a balnket on top, that's a good mix.

Now I have a crazy idea for subzero winter camping. Hear me out.

Innermost layer is a DUMMY THICK cotton insert. The next layer is a thin bivvy type bag. Then two sleeping bags inside a bivvy bag layer.
That way the sleeping bags can't get wet from either you or the outdoors. The cotton will suck up that moisture and possibly just get gross. In the morning you can hang it out in the winter air for the moisture to sublimate off or you can let it freeze and hit it against a tree to break off the moisture.
I did this before with a shirt in -20. It fucking sucks to put on a stiff as cardboard frozen shirt, but removing more of the water makes it worth it.... I think

The best no-sew option would be to get a KAM snap kit like pic rel, and a bit of grosgrain ribbon to make a snap-able tab to relieve any pressure from the zipper.
Just make sure to move a bit of the insulation out of the way and the snaps will install pretty easily.
Also, make sure to singe the ends of the grosgrain when you cut it.
You can get a lot done with some KAM snaps and grosgrain

Look into getting a top quilt instead of a bag. They are usually cheaper, lighter, and more compact than comparable bags since they use less materials.
Idk how cold Florida winters are, but a 30 or 40*F quilt could probably be used all year since they are easy to ventilate when you get hot.
Get one with a zippered foot box, and then you can open it up and use just like a normal blanket.
