There is no better starting point and on top of that, it will be adjusted for your country and/or surrounding area. Plus you can ask the person manning the desk, too.
Avoid larping manuals of any kind. Any book that's more than 50 pages is either about some very specific subject (say, mushroom almanach), or, far more likely, a random collection of shallow trivia about random subjects, not good for anything in particular, while projecting the sense of being "complete" due to the page count and broad number of topics.
Essentially, if you are buying a guide as your first step, you are doing it wrong.
