I wanna take my friend camping sometime but I don't know if there's anywhere worth going, or if we should just head to VA and go along the Appalachian Trail

Take 66 west from DC, then 81 south, then 48 west to moorefield wv. From there you can head on 220 south over to 28 west which takes you to a ton of hiking and camping areas, or stay on 48 west all the way to Davis, WV, which similarly has a ton of camping and hiking areas.

Or just ignore what I am saying and stick to the shenandoah national park and appalachian trail as most here tend to do.

But there's fucktons of dispersed camping in eastern WV and it's beautiful - wait till late march until the snow is melted for it though.

Beautiful in late april - early may when its just getting green but not too hot.

I live in Baltimore and hate that if I want to go camping I have to either pay to use some shitty spot where I can do anything fun or drive 4 hours and worry about my.car being towed while I'm having fun. I hate it her.

To be fair, I wasn't really trying to highlight Davis. My general suggestion to people looking for dispersed camping sites, which is most people on this board, is to get OFF 48 in Moorefield, and take 220 south to 28 west and there's lots of less-crowded trails to hike as well as dispersed camping sites all over right off the road in many places.

I actually have not seen douglass falls yet and only made it to blackwater last year!

you can drive up a dirt road to pic related and camp at the top

there's also lots of hiking nearby in WV and VA in the locust spring area among others

seriously anon, Maryland Heights/ Harpers Ferry are cool places, probably exactly what you are looking for. You can even see Tim Poole larping like he's an outdoorsman in his multimillion compound if you cross the river haha

Deep Creek and Wisp are also cool, but pretty far, If youre in DelMarVa. Bethany Beach is a pretty cool state park, but expensive to stay in

Are you thinking of Cape Henlopen State Park? Bethany is a town a couple miles south of CHSP.

Because it is swarmed to the fucking brim with tourists & visitors. Not only is there the beach, but they have miles of shopping outlets on Route 1 that draw in consoomers from all around the region because no sales tax. It literally turns into a hellscape of traffic, overcrowding, & fuckery throughout those months. CHSP is packed, the roads are backed up, it's a mess. Yes, even on weekdays during peak season, although better than weekends. Not to mention population continues to grow due to Covid relocation. Camping at CHSP is awesome, but if you do come try to avoid weekends from May-August. April, September, even March & October are good months if you don't like crowds & traffic.

Thanks Anon, yeah I was thinking of this park. They have free bike rentals and disc golf which is cool. Very pedestrian, but still cool for the area
