>>2317817Do what I did. Remove everything you can, straps and all. Then get a large bucket or bin
Fill the bin a third of the way with warm water or just water and leave in the sun
after a bit add some 'good quality' powder clothing detergent. then add another part of water so it gets soapy but not too bubbly
then put the pack and parts into it and let it soak
This will take an hour of your time because these thick canvas bags are thick and canvas so they take a while to absorb and then dry out
stir it around and with your hands rub parts of the material firmly
Then lift the part out, let it drip a bit so you arent transferring too much soap- and drop it in another bucket or bin that is full of just water
let it leech out the soap and absorb the water
lift and dunk a few times to help ensure this
then have a clothes line ready to clip it onto (upside first if able to drip out) then right side up so it can evaporate the rest
>(pic related)rotate it every half hour or hour so the sun can hit different sides to help dry but prevent fading
washed two almost-alice packs from Var. last week
both during the upside drip part
and during the right-side up evaporate
Hope it helps, this process works for me and removes a bit of the musty smell too.
Post what the pack looks like when you get it, I dont have that one; wonder how close to ALICE it is
You want to make sure it dries good because damp canvas can rot or be stinky
as for the metal parts just dry it all out and go over those with a towel to get them dry faster
