Moved to Vancouver hoping to find a dirtbag climbing/thru-hiking culture. Instead I found a bunch of corporate fags who enjoy buying gear more than they enjoy actually using it.
Are there any "outdoor" cities that aren't such yuppie hellscapes?

Most genuinely outdoorsy cities get taken over by yuppies since they want to brag (via social media, instagram) about the living the lifestyle in that area. Things have gotten even worse since covid/work from home.

Places that have already been ruined by these people:

>any ski town in colorado (telluride, vail)
>seattle/portland/pnw in general
>vermont

Places starting to get ruined by these people:

>St george/southern utah
>new hampshire, maine

Places not yet ruined:

Basically any urban center is already ruined or in the process of being ruined. Social media - both instagram and apps like alltrails - is a blight on the outdoors.

Utah is gone, a house in the city that cost 165k 5 years ago is 450k now.
All the rural housing/farms within 100 miles the valley are being bought and turned into cookie cutter subdivisions that cost 500-750k for a 1/4 acre.

Before the pandemic, Californians mostly stuck to their side of the country and the eastern states only had to deal with yankees invading their states. These places can have a great outdoors scene, because people move there to be rich yuppies, not to be an /out/ LARPer on Instagram - so the only people going /out/ are the people who truly want to be /out/.

Field, BC. Its a small town located on the BC Alberta border with a population on 200 or so people. The town itself is in Yoho national park, and is close to Banff, Jasper, Canmore, and other outdoorsy type cities, minus all the riff raff of actually living in a city. If I were to quit my hobo lifestyle and settle down I would love to in Field. Having the train pass through there for a quick hop in my retirement would be awesome as well. Its a nice town.

Red River Gorge is beautiful, Hazard is poor af but also pretty, Lexington and Winchester are great if you want to see a fuck ton of horse forms and rolling hills, and the Ashland/Huntington/Ironton area is great if you just want a tri-state full of humble blue collar type. Only problem is a lot of junkies in Eastern KY, but they're peaceful junkies, I've never felt unsafe anywhere except the west end of Louisville
