>>2299843do you know the HRC on it per chance?
i have my eye on this dude, but i have a hard time justifying $155 for a hatchet:
https://www.helkonorthamerica.com/store/p10/Vario_2000_Universal_Hatchet.html(i have the vario 2000 splitting axe, but since i use it constantly, it seemed 'okay' to spend ~$200 on it.)
Other than that i have a fiskars hatchet (model number i forget, but it was in the pic i posted on
>>2299339). Which i think i paid like $30 for. It's been extremely durable and has held up admirably despite the complete neglect and abuse it has seen over the 3 or 4 years i've had it. (literally; never sharpened it, never brought it inside, at best it's been stored by lodging it inside a tree stump when not in use)
I also have a fiskars 8 pound splitting maul, which like the hatchet has held up pretty well with the abuse/neglect. It's overkill for splitting ~10 year old reprod pine, so i rarely use it these days. All in all i've been pretty impressed w/ fiskars in terms of price and durability.
Call me old school (or worse) though, but the fiberglass handles just seem kind of tacky; I'm getting old, and i'd like to have tools I can pass on to my son when he's old enough, and then on to his kids. For whatever reason plastic/fiberglass handles just seem to be missing a certain something in that department.
