Of course you can find an old logging road or something and drive up and camp if it’s not gated, but that is someone’s property.
National parks all can’t really be driven into to disperse camp so much, so most of the wild camping happens from backpacking.
There are some exceptions of course, but the vast vast majority of Japanese campers are campsite glampers. Even ops video would be considered extreme because they are camping in winter. When I camp in winter in the backcountry I see zero people.
